**Please see my ad on UsedCowichan for more photos. Hola!/Greetings! From this past winter's trip to Guatemala, I brought home--as part of a small trunk sale--a variety of handmade Czech-glass beaded birds--mostly hummingbirds, but Quetzals also. Hummers are slightly larger-than-life sized; Quetzals are smaller representations. Crafted by Tz'utujil Mayan women living at the south end of Lake Atitlan, these little hanging jewels sparkle in sunlight, lamplight, candlelight--any light! At a certain time of day--when the rising/setting sun shines directly through them--these birds spangle & toss miniature prisms all over floors/ceilings/walls, depending on their location. These intricately decorative items can be hung both indoors and out. Crafted from fine rust-proof wire/acrylic fishing line and top-quality glass beads, they 'fly' anywhere & everywhere: in any window (preferably sunny); from your car's rear-view mirror; from hooks/lines on patios, balconies, decks; from potted plants, shrubs & trees in the home and garden; near 'real' hummingbird feeders; and of course during the Holiday Season on trees, from mantels, & in doorways. Use your imagination! I have made mobiles with them, strung them on wire/thread across entire rooms, and arranged them 'dripping' (chandelier-like) in well-lit corners. Grouped 'en masse' or hung singly, these exquisite bright gems bring joy into the home, office, shop, car--anywhere & everywhere. Each hummingbird (or Quetzal) promises an all-season treasure. Perfect as gifts--not only for Christmas.   I've seen these tiny beaded birds interspersed festively with Japanese lanterns at pool parties, as well as at birthdays, whimsical weddings, and baby showers.   They can even be considered a safety feature hanging from suction-cups on sliding glass patio doors--not in the least your average, pedestrian security decal! Though they appear delicate, the birds are sturdily constructed. Each bird measures approximately 16 cm/6-8 inches, from beak to tail. The long, multi-stranded tail is roughly 3/4 of the bird's entire size--the breast & head ( including beak) are approximately 1 inch/5 cm. Wingspan, on both sides of the body: approximately 2 inches per wing. I started with 15 (or so) different patterns; however, considering that each pattern is decided by the Mayan craftswoman at the time of its creation, each bird is in some small way unique. The birds are selling quickly, however, so pattern choice may not be an option--but no worries, they are all equally, splendidly charming. For the most part, I sell these birds at small markets/yard sales in the Cowichan Valley area, though I do move around the South Island as far away as Sidney and/or Sooke. I also have a location in Victoria where birds may picked up.   Because I must clear my stock before requesting any following orders, I have decided that--for a limited time--I will offer these birds online for $20 each, taxes in. Watch for my Facebook posts which will inform you of my next market day. If you pass by my table/stall, I promise to recount the Tz'utujil Mayan mythology behind these amazing creations. The story is--almost--as scintillating as the glittering, glistening birds themselves. You decide! Before summer 2022 ends, invest in art for art's sake; bring some rays of permanent sunshine into your home. Wherever / everywhere; anytime / anywhere!
