$4 · Egyptian Onion Starts - local acclimatized - onions forever!

We finally have some Egyptian Walking Onion starts (trays of six, plus one big 4" with 5 plants) available on the McNair Urban Farm Stand! Never heard of these? They're the all purpose onion that literally keeps giving every single year; if you just ignore them, they'll plant themselves a few feet from the original plant, and start a new batch next season. They also produce at least two seedheads per plant per year - usually in June or July, and again in September / October. Every part of the onion is edible and delicious: the stalks are like spicy chives. The seed heads that form on the main stalks can be used as mini onions in cooking, or planted individually next year to give you 10x more plants. The bulbs in the ground if harvested are like spiced up shallots. (though we usually leave our bulbs in the ground, as they put off new stalks every season). These are not biannual plants like most onions. They are perennial and they plant themselves, when the bulblet-laden stalks get so heavy they fall over, and the bulblets lay roots (hence the "walking onion" part).
