Chips Off the Old Block: Observations on Life by a Senior Muse by John Stokes Paperback, 1999, 218 pages. Self published. Signed with inscription to previous owners About the Author John Stokes was born in Lima, Peru of an English-Irish father and an American-German mother. The Stokes family lived in Peru until August of 1937 when they immigrated to Canada, taking up residence on Vancouver Island. John attended Shawnigan Lake School while his sisters, CarrieJane and Liz attended Queen Margaret's School in DuncanJohn graduated from UBC in Vancouver and after finishing one year of post-graduate studies he married Flora Norris and they added Liz, Tom, George, and Margie to the family John was employed by the Federal Department of Fisheries as a biologist, mostly in northern B.C. After 11 years as a biologist John left called to the ordained ministry of the Anglican Church. His ministry began in 1960 and ended in 1982. In 1982, John left northern B.C. for Vancouver Island after suffering the trauma of job burnout and marriage breakdown. During a two-year stay on Vancouver Island John received pastoral care and counseling then returned to north-central B.C. as a social worker. John married Dottie Zander, an American from California in December of 1986. A stroke forced John into early retirement in November 1987. John and Dottie moved south to Qualicum Beach and have enjoyed life there ever since. This is John's first venture into the writing and publishing arena. See pictures Pickup in Langford Cross posted
