Over 100 years old, this stunning 19th century antique cedar dowry chest was hand-crafted in the Swat valley in Pakistan. This chest is made from Himalayan cedar and features jointed construction. Artisans from this area are renowned as master craftsmen working with cedar and the unique hand carvings bring this piece to life. The dark brown patina is from the many fires in the home and has made this antique piece absolutely stunning. This rectangular cabinet has raised corner posts with finial surmounts and carved foliate motifs. The Swat valley is a beautiful mountainous area of the Hindu Kush that straddles the Afghan-Pakistan border. These chests were used for storing jewellery, the bride’s dowry, clothes and stocks of grain. This beautiful and rare piece will bring antique flair to your home and be a real conversation piece.
