Musical seeking musicians and actors

The late 1980s were a time of great social upheaval — many were oppressed, fighting for the freedom to live their lives without fear. Poverty led to crime. Hopelessness turned to anger. Arcades were places of escape into magical worlds of digital fantasy, and for some, sanctuary from the cruel world outside. But they were not without their dramas. Bullying, racism, and class issues still abounded, even within those walls. Arcade: the Musical looks into one of these arcades, one now facing another 1980s threat: gentrification. Can the denizens of this arcade resolve their differences and band together to save their beloved sanctuary from the property developer parent of one of their own? Or will it all go down in flames? And tears? ARCADE: THE MUSICAL is a one-set production, where the action occurs out in front of the arcade. “Buskers” have taken up residence on the stage and accompany the other performers as needed, and chorus members emerge from the arcade on cue. Sometimes, arcade machines accompany as well! The shorter version, intended for school performance, is 60 minutes in length. It deals with issues of diversity, community, and empathy, and there is some educational content surrounding game development. There is planned to be a longer version with more mature content, for broader public performance. Locally written and composed, its producers hope to showcase Victoria’s theatre scene and demonstrate our collective ability to develop new content. We need actor / singers for various roles, from teen to middle-age. We also need chorus singers / dancers of various ages as well. We are also looking for musicians of various specialities to play the buskers.
