We’re looking for a few more people for Paddlers of the Fifth Moon (mixed crew) and Snappin’ Dragons (womens crew) for the current dragon boat season. Both teams are competitively-minded rec crews in that paddlers are expected to show up, focus and train hard while not bringing the drama! Our coach has over 20yrs experience and is currently also the head coach for the Canadian National Para Dragon Boat Team. You’ll learn how to paddle properly and train on boat sides to avoid injury. Paddlers will have regular video review and access to a number of training tools to develop and refine skills. Absolutely no experience is needed, you just need the right mindset. If you want to grow skill, this is a solid opportunity! As we're a little bit into the season and past our first race, fees are now $200 for the remaining practices and races. It's not too late though, tons of time to get up to speed, we have new folk join all the time! Our season runs from now to mid August, officially ending with the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival. Snappin' Dragons is on the water Tues and Thurs 530-7pm and Fifth Moon is out 7-830pm, both boat warm up 15min prior to water time and train at Fairway Gorge Paddling Club. Races will be Nanaimo (Jul 12-13 or Jul 19-20 - I'll explain!) and Victoria (Aug 9) with the option for additional races. We are looking for strong, fit, committed, reliable, drama free folk, again no experience needed, we can teach you everything you need to know. Target range is 20-49 to avoid competing for registration with the 50+ crews around Victoria but no one would be turned away based on age if they’re a good fit for the team. Our teams are extremely inclusive, providing a safe space for anyone interested in trying paddling. If you are interested or would like more info, please reach out. Everyone gets 2 free practices to try before joining with no pressure. If it’s not your jam, no sweat. You really have nothing to lose by checking it out. You could discover a lifelong passion with an awesome group of people!
