The Victoria Cross was instituted in January 1856 during the reign of Queen Victoria. It is the highest recognition for valour 'in the face of the enemy' that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces of any rank in any service, and civilians under military command. It is also the highest military award in the British Honours system. This reproduction full-size Victoria Cross Medal is made from bronze plated metal. It is supplied on a brown ribbon as shown.
