We bought two of these bikes (blue one has been sold) brand new and they have taken us to some marvelous places. We’ve done backcountry touring in Canada, the US, and Mexico. We’ve finally accepted the fact that we’re a couple of seniors and too old to do this kind of riding safely anymore. It’s time for someone else to carry on without us. We’ve owned a lot of different street bikes over the years but the KLRs are the ones that we’ve been loath to let go. This bike has been professionally lowered. My wife bought it new in 2001 but she is inseam-challenged, hence the lowering kit. We also have the original links so it would be easy to return this bike to stock height. If you or someone you know is vertically-challenged but doesn't want to ride a cruiser, this might be an alternative. This bike is the older version of the KLR which means that all the flaws in the original design are a known item. We upgraded all the important ones within 2 years of buying this bike. It's been carefully maintained and has always run reliably wherever we have gone.
