Offered here is an exceedingly rare and fully authenticated Costela (Rib) Lounge Chair by Martin Eisler for Móveis Artesanal, Brazil, circa 1950s. This sculptural masterpiece is a landmark of mid-century Brazilian design and one of the most iconic lounge chairs ever produced in Latin America. Unlike the more common reissues or unauthorized variations, this is an original period production—verified by its rare surviving manufacturer’s label—and crafted in old-growth Caviuna wood, a material known for its rich tone and striking grain. As of listing, it is the only documented and labeled Caviuna example publicly available anywhere in the world. The Costela’s distinctive form takes its name from the elegantly curved wooden “ribs” that cradle the upholstered cushions, creating a dramatic profile that is as comfortable as it is architecturally dynamic. Designed to embrace the human body with gentle suspension and generous cushioning, it remains a bold yet organic statement in any interior. This particular example has been meticulously restored and reupholstered in a high-end cotton-linen blend fabric with hand-stitched detailing. The wood frame has been gently polished, preserving its original patina while enhancing the natural beauty of the Caviuna.
