Pet Sitter Selection Tips!! To help you decide if I'm the cat carer for your dear(s), here are my answers to the questions that the BC SPCA recommends you ask those you are interviewing for pet care services! My rate is $30 per visit and I take great care and pride in having you return home to a pet who is not only happy to see you but who was happy while you were away too. Choosing a Pet Sitter: take these steps to help find the right pet sitter: 1. Decide which arrangement will work best for you and your pet (sitter staying in your home, daily visits to your home, or your pet going to the sitter’s home). -I provide in-your-home care only as I have two cats of my own and that is all I'm allowed in my condo. 2. Ask reliable sources like your vet or experienced pet owner for recommendations. -I can provide multiple references for my services. 3. Review the pet sitter’s information they provide to you, or have on a website, to confirm the specialized training or certifications they hold, their experience and how long they have been caring for pets. -I can provide a full resume of my training, certifications and experience. I have been caring for cats for decades. 4. Set up an interview with them so you can ask the right questions and your pet can meet the sitter. -I as well insist on an in-person interview so the owner and cats can check me out and I can have a first hand walk through care expectations if I am selected for cat care services. Questions to Ask A Potential Pet Sitter 1. How do you introduce yourself to a pet you are meeting for the first time? -I let the cat tell me through their demeanor how comfortable they are with a new person - the pace I adopt is the pace that the cat is comfortable with. I always let them give my gently offered hand a good sniff first. 2. How do you interact with the pet and encourage them to interact with you if they are shy or hesitant? -I use a soft, lilting voice to chat with the cat as long as it takes for them to decide that I am safe to be with and approach. I am also aided by the fact that I am the one giving them their food and cleaning out their litter box 3. What training and experience have you had to understand the pet’s body language, preferences and well-being? -My resume outlines my decades of experience and learning! 4. What steps do you take when there is an emergency with the pet, including a health emergency? -I ask owners to provide details of the emergency procedures they want me to follow and then in the event of an emergency I follow those procedures. 5. What is the length of your visit with the pet? -My visits are an hour in length. 6. What medications are you comfortable and capable of giving to a pet? -I administer oral medications - mixing in with food, and directly by mouth 7. What updates and photos do you provide to owners while you are caring for their pet? -I text or email a photo and update to owners during each visit.
